Family policies
Whether you may watch, what to wear, who collects and how photos are handled.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
Watching class and recitals
Families are welcome to watch the Saturday classes from the benches along the studio wall, and the last Saturday of every month is a watch day for all of them. On weekday evenings the door stays closed so dancers can hear the drum, and the window stays open to you. The spring performance has open seating. Photos and video of your own dancer from your seat are welcome, without flash.
What to wear and bring
Wear what you can move in: leggings, shorts or a long skirt, and a top that lets your arms move. Dancers work in bare feet or socks, and a wrap skirt or cloth tied at the hips is welcome and easy to find. Hair is tied back, and jewelry that dangles stays at home. We will tell you if the class needs anything else, and we take wrap fittings in person.
When to keep your child home
Please keep your dancer home with a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, and until they have been well for a full day. Text or call the studio and we will tell you how a missed class can be made up.
Drop-off and pickup
A grown-up brings and collects every dancer under 10, and the teacher hands each child to the person who came with them. For older dancers the door opens ten minutes before class, and we ask you to tell us who is collecting. We ask for ID from anyone we haven't met, and we will wait with a dancer until their grown-up arrives.
Absences and late arrival
Text or call the studio when you will miss a class. A missed class can be made up in another class of the same level, or the level just below it, within the same session. A dancer who arrives after the warm-up joins quietly, and if class is well under way we will ask you to come back next week.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close the week of Thanksgiving, for the winter holidays and for one week in spring. When the weather closes the roads we text everyone by noon, and a missed class is made up like any other.
Screens and phones
Phones stay in bags during class, except for a dancer's own short video of a step with the teacher's say-so. The drummers and the teachers are not filmed for posting, and we ask families to keep video from the performance to themselves.
